Premios Euskadi Avanza awarded
Carmen Martínez Zabala, President of Grupo Faustino, was awarded the Euskadi Avanza Business Progress Award in recognition of her work and contribution to the Basque business world.
The Euskadi Avanza Awards, now in their fourth year running, are organised by Banco Sabadell and El Correo. These awards shine a light on business activity as a whole in the Basque country and, in particular, the work of four award winners.
This year's 2021 edition, in addition to awarding Carmen Martínez Zabala, also honoured companies from an array of sectors, such as Viralgen as Best New Company, Mondragón Assembly as Best SME and Iberdrola as Best Company of the Year.
In her speech, Carmen Martínez, who was presented with the award by Antonio Garamendi, Chairman of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE), said, 'I am proud of my journey in the company; my roots are in the winery and vineyard where I grew up, in the passion and dedication transmitted by my parents'.
She also praised the Rioja brand as an icon in the world of Spanish wine, in which Grupo Faustino is prominent as top exporter of Rioja Gran Reservas, with a share of more than 30%.
The Group closed 2020 with a strong year-on-year growth of 16% in exports, generating a revenue of 41 million euros. Furthermore, the Group's wineries in the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin account for an overall market share of almost 7% of the total produced by Designation of Origin region.
The awards ceremony was held at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and was attended by Enrique de Ybarra, Chairman of the newspaper El Correo, Javier Echenique, Vice Chairman of Banco Sabadell and Arantxa Tapia, Minister for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment of the Basque Government, who finished the event.
