Bodegas Valcarlos releases its latest white wine, the Fortius Barrel Fermented Chardonnay

Fortius Chardonnay Barrel Fermented 2016 Due to the Grupo Faustino’s increased focus on white wines, Bodegas Valcarlos, the group’s winery located in Navarra, has released the new Fortius Barrel Fermented Chardonnay onto the market.
Bodegas Valcarlos is Grupo Faustino’s only winery located in Navarra, situated in the village of Los Arcos in Tierra Estella, which itself is on the Camino de Santiago.
This fantastic example of the quality of D.O. Navarra’s white wines is exclusively sourced from vineyards owned by Bodegas Valcarlos in Los Arcos and Corella.
Once harvested, the grapes undergo a cold maceration of 48 hours before the free-run juice is separated.
The fermentation takes places in American oak barrels of medium plus toast and following the fermentation, the wine undergoes batonnage twice a week for the first month and a half. During the following month and a half, the batonnage takes place once a week and then once every 15 days for the last month and a half.
After this careful barrel ageing the wine is clarified and then cold stabilized. Finally, the wine is bottled and stored in the bottle cellar of the winery before release.
The Fortius Barrel Fermented Chardonnay is a clean, bright and elegant wine, with an intense golden colour. This is a complex wine, with toasted notes, leading to hints of roasted hazelnuts. Ripe fruits are present in the background. In the palate, the wine is full bodied with a gentle texture and a good acidity. The finish has a wonderful balance between the toasted notes and the ripe fruit.
This Chardonnay is the perfect wine for a variety of dishes, such as sushi made with oily fish (salmon and tuna), tuna tataki, seafood pasta, rice with seafood, mushroom risotto, fish ceviche, vegetable stew and cheese fondue.
